Hardware Penetration Testing Services Australia
Hardware penetration testing uncovers exploitable flaws inside physical devices, including firmware, silicon, debug ports and the protocols between them, before an attacker who holds the device ever can. Intrix delivers CREST certified, manual led assessments for connected products, embedded systems and OT across Australia.

What Is Hardware Penetration Testing and Why It Matters
Hardware penetration testing is a hands on, authorised attack against a physical device. Unlike a network or web penetration test, a hardware attacker has unlimited physical access. They can desolder chips, tap buses, glitch power rails and read flash directly. Intrix replicates that adversary in a controlled lab to find what they would, then delivers clear, risk rated remediation you can act on.
Connected products, medical devices and industrial controllers ship to customers, factories and field sites where attackers can buy a unit and take it apart at leisure. Finding the physical weaknesses first is the only way to protect the rest of your fleet, your cloud back end and your brand.

What We Provide
Expose chip and firmware flaws
Find hardcoded secrets, insecure boot and exploitable firmware before your product ships at scale.
Secure the supply chain
Validate third party modules, contract manufactured boards and component integrity end to end.
Protect connected product lines
Stop one cloned or rooted unit from compromising your fleet, your cloud and your customers.
Meet compliance mandates
Satisfy IEC 62443, ETSI EN 303 645, PSTI and FDA pre market device security expectations.
Validate tamper resistance
Prove your secure element, anti tamper and key storage hold up against a hands on attacker.
Avoid recalls and field fixes
Catching a silicon level flaw pre launch is a fraction of the cost of a fleet wide recall.
Our Hardware Penetration Testing Services
From bench reconnaissance to silicon level attacks, we assess the whole device and everything it talks to.
Debug Interface Testing
JTAG, SWD, UART and SPI probing to gain code execution and dump protected memory.
Firmware and Embedded Analysis
Extract, unpack and reverse firmware to find secrets, backdoors and unsafe update mechanisms.
Side Channel Analysis
Power and EM analysis (SPA and DPA) to recover cryptographic keys leaking through the hardware.
Fault Injection and Glitching
Voltage, clock and EM glitching to bypass secure boot, defeat readout protection and skip checks.
Secure Boot and Secure Element
Review chain of trust, key provisioning and SE or TPM usage for bypassable trust anchors.
Bus Sniffing and Injection
Intercept and manipulate SPI, I2C, CAN and internal buses to tamper with device behaviour.
Tamper and Physical Security
Assess enclosures, anti tamper meshes and detect or respond controls under hands on attack.
Wireless and RF Testing
BLE, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, LoRa and proprietary RF, including protocol abuse, replay and pairing attacks.
IoT and OT Device Assessment
End to end testing of the device, mobile app, APIs and cloud back end as one attack surface. See IoT and OT Security.
The Intrix Hardware Testing Difference
Our hardware team works on the bench with oscilloscopes, logic analysers, chip off rigs and glitching tools, chaining physical and logical weaknesses the way a real attacker would. Every finding is reproduced, evidenced and rated by real world business impact. Our methodology aligns with CREST standards and the Australian Government Information Security Manual.

Manual, attacker driven
Expert hardware hackers on the bench, far beyond automated firmware scanners.
Exploitability first
We prove real impact, such as keys recovered or fleets cloned, not theoretical risk.
Actionable reporting
The what, the so what and the now what your hardware and firmware teams can ship.
Chained attack paths
We connect a debug port to a key leak to a fleet compromise, mapping the full kill chain.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hardware Penetration Testing
What is hardware penetration testing?
Hardware penetration testing is an authorised, hands on attack against a physical device performed by certified security specialists. Using the same tools a real attacker would, such as chip off, debug ports, glitching and side channel analysis, Intrix finds weaknesses that can genuinely be exploited when someone holds your device, then delivers a risk rated report on what was found and how to fix it.
How is it different from a normal penetration test?
A network or web test assumes a remote attacker. Hardware testing assumes physical possession of the device, so we can desolder components, read flash directly, tap internal buses and glitch the processor. These attacks reveal firmware secrets, broken secure boot and cloning risks that purely software based testing cannot reach.
What devices can you test?
IoT and consumer connected products, medical devices, industrial and OT controllers, automotive ECUs, payment and access control hardware, routers and networking gear, and custom embedded boards. If it has a processor, memory and interfaces, we can assess it.
How long does a hardware assessment take?
A focused single device engagement typically runs 2 to 4 weeks depending on complexity, available documentation and the depth of silicon level work required. We scope every engagement up front so you get an accurate timeline for your specific device, not a generic estimate.
Do you need more than one unit of the device?
Yes. We recommend 3 to 5 identical units. Destructive techniques like chip off and decapsulation consume samples, and having spares lets us validate findings and confirm fixes without delaying the engagement.
Which standards do you align to?
Our hardware methodology aligns with IEC 62443, ETSI EN 303 645, OWASP IoT, NIST and the UK PSTI regime, and all engagements follow the Australian Government Information Security Manual. We are CREST accredited.
Can you retest after we fix the issues?
Yes. Once your team has remediated, we run a targeted retest of every previously identified finding and provide documented evidence the fixes hold under real bench conditions, supporting your compliance and customer assurance needs.
